General Basics of using the free version of EndNote (EndNote Basic or EndNote Online)

EndNote Basic or Online

EndNote is a citation manager.  It allows you to create citations or export them from databases searches to save to the cloud and access later.  While it can be hard to find, there is a free version available at: https://access.clarivate.com/login?app=endnote

Go to the link below, and sign up for an account:

Add Citations: Create Citations

Click on Collect - New Reference to create the citation yourself by manually entering the information into required fields

Add Citations: Import References

Can export citations in most databases by finding the article citation, click on "Export To" (may have to click on ellipsis (three dots) first).

 

 

Export will save to your downloads. Can then go to your EndNote account and click on "Collect" then "Import Reference" which will add it to your saved references.

 

What Does EndNote Do?

EndNote lets you:

- Organize citations for your research

- Create your own citation

- Search for citations

- Import citations

- Manage citations

- Export citations 

- Create a bibliography

Add Citations: Online Search

Once logged into EndNote, click on "Collect" at the top of the screen, then "Online Search"

Online search options include "Library of Congress" "National Library of Medicine" and "PubMed"

In the example below PubMed is used.

Click on the name of the article for more details.  Click on go to URL to view the resource.

Check the box next to the article name, then select "Add to Group" from the top to save to your account.
